Online Sportsbooks

May 14th, 2010 by jlphillips

Nothing illuminates the international scope of online gambling like the best available at online sportsbooks.

Where once a bettor could hope for a decent selection of ‘local favorites’ (i.e., baseball and football for the US, soccer and cricket for the UK, etc.), the Internet sports betting scene offers anyone, anywhere the opportunity to get in touch with the sport they love — no matter how small or regional it may be.

Because of the peculiar state of US laws regarding online gambling, some of the best sportsbooks in the world are off-limits to players inside the United States; this includes well-known sports betting names like William Hill and Ladbrokes as well as newer Internet-only giants like 888 Sport.

Luckily, a number of high-qulity sportsbooks have stepped up to make sure that the US market is well taken care of. My personal choice is always BetUS, but I’ve also had great experiences with Sportsbook.com and SportsBetting.com (the names alone give you an idea of how focused they are on the sports betting — no wannabes here!).

Online sportsbooks offer a variety of lines and odds, but they also offer any number of extras that may influence where you end up playing. These can include sports-specific incentives (promotions, statistics, live betting, et cetera) as well as more general gambling (online slots, poker, and more).

Plus, you have all of the advantages that an online casino USA or UK has over land-based venues: convenience, accessibility, better odds and better payouts, among other things. The situation is slightly different, especially in the US, where sports betting has virtually never been available to many players in a brick-and-mortar establishment. Few sports fans had the opportunity to visit Vegas for longer than a few days or a week or so, whereas now you can bet on your chosen team or sport all season long!
